Nursery Design Ideas to Inspire

How to make the littlest of spaces beautiful.

30 July 2024 –

Bringing home the newest member of your family for the first time is easily one of the most special memories you’ll have in your home. Here’s a few tips and tricks to do it in style.

When designing nurseries, Shea and the design team like to start with elements that can be layered on and added to for years to come, longevity of the design is the goal. Aside from that, there are a few ideas in the Studio McGee nursery archives that you can follow to ensure that it’s a space you want to spend time in, and the special space you want to bring your little one home to. Keep scrolling to see the nursery Syd and Shea brought baby Margot home to, as well as some tips we’ve learned that will ensure you design a nursery that you’ll love long after your little one grows out of their crib.

“Margot’s nursery is a space I never grow tired of. It’s elevated, sophisticated design while still retaining a feeling of childhood play.”

Leave Space to Grow

Sadly, babies don’t stay babies forever, so it’s important to design your nursery with elements you can build upon as they get older. Invest in wallpaper, paint, rugs, and furniture, then layer in playful moments through textiles, artwork, and styling pieces you can easily update as they outgrow the original design.

Just Beige

On the ceiling in Syd and Shea’s nursery is Just Beige by Benjamin Moore. The tan hue has a sophisticated tinge of pink, perfect for a little girl’s nursery.

02

Create Zones

Nurseries consist of three essential zones—a spot for sleeping, feeding, and changing. Make sure these designated places work together in the room overall and don’t forget that a comfy chair for late-night feedings is a must.

03

Add Ambient Lighting

Good lighting is important in every room, but even more so in a nursery where getting your little one to sleep during daylight hours happens. Build layers of light with floor and table lamps, so you don’t need to turn on overwhelmingly bright overheads. Bonus if they are dimmable.

04

Find Pretty Storage Solutions

Make sure the everyday necessities are easy to access with pretty yet functional storage solutions. Give everything a place to live with storage furniture, and layer in baskets and bins for grab-and-go essentials.
